At heart, Andy is a maker and his passion is learning. Regardless of industry, he likes challenging dogma and thinking outside of the box. That started in 1994 when he created a Mortal Combat style game to teach kids the immune system in inner city Chicago at a time when game-based learning was in its infancy and when most people didn’t yet appreciate the power of games in learning.
Andy returned to that true passion for gaming and learning at SMART where he is Senior Director of User Experience. He leads the team that creates learner experiences across our hardware and software products and he leads our new internal game-based learning startup. For over 30 years, he has led user-centered design, design research and strategy in startups, consultancies, large corporations and higher education. He and his team create products that solve meaningful needs and that make a difference. Andy has a BS and MS from Stanford University and an MDes from the Institute of Design at IIT.
